Hustler Equipment – Cashflow Is Key For Production

Hustler Equipment, Hastings – case study

‘The QUICKSTOCK solution made sense for both production and cashflow’

We spoke with production manager Pat Lawry at Hustler Equipment about how a small change has meant big savings when it comes to stock management…

Tell us a bit about Hustler Equipment….

We’re a New Zealand company manufacturing agricultural implements both for farmers around the world.  Starting from a shed in 1961, Hustler has grown to become a global brand, with dealerships throughout Europe, America, Canada, and Australia.  With our head office located here in Hastings, one of New Zealand’s key agricultural regions, it allows us to keep in touch with farmers,  and continually innovate, design and build equipment to suit the changing needs of farmers world-wide.

What led you to try QUICKSTOCK?

As a production based manufacturing company with a brand new purpose built workshop, we were on the lookout for ways we could tidy up our inventory management.  We were already happy with the quality of abrasive and PPE consumables supplied by Euromarc, and the QuickStock solution made sense for both production and cashflow.  Our engineers would have quick access to the consumables they use regularly, no ordering required, and we only pay for what we use.

What were some of the costs involved in ordering before QUICKSTOCK?

Before QuickStock I would have been placing between 6 to 8 orders a month, possibly more if we had unexpected stockouts.  So the major costs would have been my time in monitoring the stock, placing orders, receiving the stock in etc.  The other major would have been production costs in lost time if we had any stockouts.  Then on a smaller scale would be the shipping cost tacked on to every order.  Adding it all together, the system is saving us quite a bit each month.

Were there any hurdles with getting used to QUICKSTOCK?

Not really, we were already using a lot of Euromarc products, and had prior knowledge of our average consumption, so the set up was pretty seamless. Introducing it into a brand new workshop meant it just fit right in as part of the new way of operating.

How would you say QUICKSTOCK has improved your business?

No stockouts, quality consistent product, no in-house consumable management required, and no money tied up in consumable stock holding. It’s efficient.

What would you say to other engineering companies looking for an inventory management solution?

It’s a brilliant solution.
