A Healthier Team at Hall Fabrication After Switching to Powered Air Respirators

Hall Fabrication, Christchurch ” Success Story

“It”s the peace of mind that the guys are breathing in that fresh air they need to have, and going home at the end of the day feeling healthy.

Elliott, Carl, and Callum from Hall Fabrication tell us how switching to the TECMEN TM1000 has helped with longer welding jobs, and a better feeling going home with clean lungs.

TELL US A BIT ABOUT HALL FABRICATION…

‘Hi, I’m Elliott from Hall Fabrication, based here in Sydenham in Christchurch. We specialise in architectural metalwork, and sheet metal engineering. Predominantly work in the residential and commercial sectors.

We are what we call a jobbing shop, so no two jobs are the same. This could be from custom balustrades, rainwater systems, to another line that we do is our stainless steel swimming pools. Really keeps it interesting for the guys out on the floor and for the design team in the office.’

Elliott Hall, Director

WHAT RESPIRATORY PROTECTION WERE YOU USING BEFORE YOU TRIED THE TECMEN RESPIRATORY UNITS?

Elliott – ‘Before the TM1000, the men out there fabricating we’re just using a half mask. Probably not using it as much as they should have because of how awkward it was.’

Carl – ‘I just started off with, just a mask, glasses, ear muffs, and it’s a bit of a hassle getting all that stuff on and off. Just does not work for me.’

Callum – ‘Before the TM1000, I had just a basic Weldsafe helmet. Found it kept flashing me, and I couldn’t really see that well in it, it would dirty up really quick.’

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO BUY THE TECMEN RESPIRAOTR UNITS?

Elliott – ‘Last year when we started to look at different options of respiratory protection for the workers, was when we were working on a sheep yard extension, and we had roughly 300m² of galvanised grating we were installing. It was lots of lots of welding.

And the half masks weren’t working for the boys. They were coming home at night and complaining that there was still smoke and fumes getting through. So we purchased a couple of the TM1000″s, for the guys out there and they noticed a difference straightaway.’

Callum- ‘It’s nice and comfy. Doesn’t give me a sore neck throughout the day like some other ones can be quite heavy, whereas this is quite nice and light. Easy to put on, easy to assemble.

Went with the TM1000, just the price point and the features and stuff that you get with it. It’s really reasonable, compared to some of the other ones, where they’re almost about double, double the price for effectively the same thing.’

‘Since this has come along, it’s been a breeze. You don’t have to swap your glasses over, it’s on, flip it up, flip it down. Everything’s there for you, fresh air, and my breathing is definitely a lot better. It”s really nice.

Another amazing thing with this is the true colour, it really helps. I had a green lens, does not work for my eyes. True colour, it’s another winner.’

Carl Rendle, Fabricator

WHAT DIFFERENCE HAS IT MADE TO YOUR STAFF IN HAVING THE PAPR UNITS?

‘The difference it’s made with work is I spend a lot less time taking on and off a respirator, whereas I’m always attached to it. So if I’m grinding or sanding, it’s already going.

I don”t have to worry about putting on a separate respirator to what I’m doing. And it’s a lot clearer than my old helmet. I can see a lot easier while I’m welding. I don’t get arc flashed by it, it still stays dark during the weld process, it’s super handy.’

Callum Roberts, Fabricator

Elliott – ‘I like the way that if they need spare parts for them, I can order them online by 4:00pm and I’ve got them in the next morning by nine. So the helmet is always well supplied for the guys, they find it’s really good.

And the battery life, they find the battery will last all day long as opposed to old units they had. And they found they had to swap out batteries or put them on charge during their breaks.’

WOULD YOU RECOMMEND TECMEN RESPIRATOR UNITS TO OTHER ENGINEERS?

Elliott – ‘So I would recommend the TM1000, to any Welder fabricator or business owner that wants to look after their staff members.’

Callum – ‘It”s good bang for your buck, does everything it says it would do. Does a good job and does everything I need.

Carl – ‘Yeah definitely recommend this to other fabricators. It should be a part of every workshop now.

It”s game changer, it really is.

No more black bogies when you take shortcuts.’
